This book feels like an indulgent and incomplete idea. It introduces the reader to a couple of environmental concerns and one issue of the lack of access to medical care. The children are transported around the world and shown these problems, for example, one page shows coral bleaching. The text then prompts kids to "heal the coral" by pressing a button in the corner of the page the story's mechanism by which they travel the world and then heal it , and after the push of the button you find tha This book feels like an indulgent and incomplete idea.

On to the next issue. There's no story. Neither is there any explanation of how human behavior has created these issues or can actually fix them no magic button being available beyond these pages. I was expecting that the back of the book would have more information, such as, steps that kids and communities can take to address these issues, NGOs to join, or at a minimum, a list of links for further study.
There was nothing. The only link was for Lennon's humanitarian organization. This was neither entertaining as a story nor educational as an environmental resource. View all 4 comments. The EARTH series just makes me feel good inside; it blends childlike wonder with real-life environmental and humanitarian issues; yet it is all pervaded with an overwhelming sense of hope. Youngsters are encouraged to interact with the book; pressing "buttons," tilting the book up and down as the "White Feather Flyer" travels the world.

I won this book back in March and I didn't receive it until earlier this month after contacting Goodreads to say it never arrived. I had pretty much given up on the book coming as I have won a few other books that never found their way to me.
However, when I finally got it, I was delighted.
About Judith Schwartz
A beautiful, engaging read that teaches some of the ways we need to For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-Cycle I received a signed copy of this book through Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. A beautiful, engaging read that teaches some of the ways we need to heal our earth in a simple way that I don't think is overwhelming for children. I really liked the use of "buttons" that the child can press to help solve different issues. From bringing doctors and medicine to those who need it to brightening up the coral reef, children can push a button to help heal the world.
If only it were that easy. This is a great way to make the book more fun and engaging for children. The book gives very simple explanations and overviews of various issues, such as that zooxanthellae zooks give the coral reef its color, but warm waters due to climate change decrease the zooks on the reef. The problems are presented in a way that is easy to understand and isn't overwhelming. This book is meant to teach children about some environmental and human issues and show them that there is something that can be done about these issues. A nice positive book with a hopeful message.actenkekesri.gq
Healing the Planet With a Stethoscope
The illustrations are beautiful. The illustrations are never too bleak and show people doing what they can to help fix the problem. I also liked the diversity of the children featured in the White Feather Flier. Great inclusivity, showing that everyone plays a part in the healing of our earth.
The book also includes a beautiful poem by Julian Lennon and a message about his White Feather Foundation for more information you can visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Really very nice message. A great step in the right direction meant to help teach the next generation to love and care for each other and the planet.
Beautiful book. Beautiful message. Beautiful goal.

I really enjoyed it. Open Book Reviews by Megan Schmelzer www. In my opinion, a few, minor adjustments and this book could be so much better! Heal the Earth has a simple message. The message is clear and beautifully illustrated, so why did it fall short for me? Heal the Earth fell short for me in its attempt to be an interactive story. She would push the button when the book told her too, or she would tilt the book up or down when it told her too.
My opinion is that if you plan to go with an interactive story for young readers, then make it actually interactive. A circle on the page and instructions in the text to push the circle do not make a book more interesting for young readers. If the book truly wanted to make it interactive, it needs to have an actual push button on the pages that made noises or provides some additional piece to the story.
The book almost would have been better if they wouldn't have even attempted to apply what little interaction it did apply. If interaction pieces are done poorly in a children's book, they just shouldn't be there in the first place. Kids see right through it! Jul 31, Megan Schmelzer rated it it was ok. This book is a good informational book for children learning about what they can do to help the environment and other people. However, some of the suggested things the children do in the book, are not realistic for children to do by themselves though they are good suggestions. Before reading this book I did not realize that it was interactive, which kind of turned me off from the book because I would love to read this to children to talk about the environment and what we can do to help it.
With This book is a good informational book for children learning about what they can do to help the environment and other people. With the book being interactive, I don't see myself using this book as a class read aloud.
On the second page, the authors have an illustration of the continents, but only have 6 and not 7. I understand that no one lives on Antarctica, but it is still a continent and is effected by climate change too. Overall, this book was alright. It's not something I would read to a class but it still has good points about helping the Earth to heal from humans living on it and not thinking about their actions having consequences. Dec 02, Patricia Tilton rated it really liked it. It beautiful interactive book that speaks directly to younger children and empowers them to be part of the magic of healing and loving our planet and its inhabitants.
